Ogden, UT- If you are anything like the average American, you probably have a drawer - or several - full of old tax returns, bank statements, pay stubs and receipts that you can’t bring yourself to just throw away. Now, there is a way to eliminate those piles of paper worry-free! For the past thirteen years, Weber State Credit Union has hosted an event to help community members securely shred and recycle sensitive documents. This year, thanks to a partnership with EnableUtah, the event will also include recycling for electronics, such as laptops, printers, cell phones, LCD monitors, and PCs.

Because identity theft is such a rampant problem in today’s society, WSCU wants to provide a safe and secure way for community members to shred and recycle old documents and electronics. This eliminates the possibility of sensitive data getting into the wrong hands.

Protecting and preserving our environment is very important to WSCU, and this event greatly reduces the amount of waste going to landfills, as well as recycles enough paper to save around 250 trees. With the addition of electronic recycling, WSCU and EnableUtah can help reduce the 50 million tons of electronic waste produced in America every year.

Additionally, this event will provide work for adults with disabilities. EnableUtah provides training, job coaching and work experience for people with special needs. “Electronic recycling is a great way to teach and prepare disabled individuals for employment in the community,” said Jared Hoellein- Public Relations Manager at EnableUtah.

The event is free and open to everyone, so bring your friends, family and neighbors!

The Free Shred & Recycle Day will be held April 29th from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at three WSCU locations, including: Main Branch 4140 Harrison Blvd in Ogden, the North Ogden Branch 2388 N. 400 E. (Washington Blvd.) in North Ogden, and the Roy Branch 5997 S. 3500 W. in Roy.
